First, believe that it will get better. Second you don't need a prescription for a mask, only for the CPAP machine itself. So if the mask is the problem you can eliminate that whole chain of doctors. If the machine needs to be reset because it is to high or to low in pressure then you may have to work with them to get that right.
As far as the mask fitting right, best is try on a few with the machine on, see what is comfortable. If this is not possible, there are sites on the Internet that will send you or let you download sizing chart to help you get the right size. If there is no physical limitation (scares or irregular shape) Then finding the right size should not be to much of a problem. As far as to the kind of mask there are many out there. I use a resprionics comfort gell nasal mask. It does a good job of comforming to my face, (and I have facial hair) its quite comfortable and I like it very much. There are some mask that let you mold them to your particular face, by pre-soaking them in hot water, then it will mold. once cooled its your prefect fit. type of head gear can play into this as well. there are several to choose from here as well. My advice it to research the eqipment on the interent learn what you can so when talking with the doctors or you providers you have the information and are not helpless.
Hope this helps, and I hope you get what you need.
