I just looked it up. "Hypnogogic hallucinations" are hallucinations that occur right before you've fallen asleep. I think that bascially you're just so tired that you start dreaming before you're really fallen asleep.

What is common to many sleep disorders is an erosion of the boundary between sleep and wakefulness. Just think of Ed Norton sleepwalking through the Kosciusko Stret Sewers!
