Posted by Dennis on April 26, 2006 at 13:15:20:I have a few questions re CPAP machines. Seven years after 2 surgeries to overcome OSA and gaining some weight(opps!), I am once again a CPAP user & the 3rd time seems to be going well. I currently use a basic RemStar Plus model at a constant pressure setting of 10 cm H2O. It works fine & I have no complaints although I would like to know some first-hand info from any users that may have gone to machines with auto-tritating/C-Flex/humidifer features. Like many CPAP users, I would welcome any improvement that makes this treatment more comfortable. I realize Respironics has the "C-Flex" option & I'm not sure what others have that would be equal although the ResMed S8 box appears to be an interesting setup. Are the machines with such features considered more mechanically noisey? Do they allow you to operate them in basic/constant mode should you choose? Does your sleep study & Dr specify the variable pressure range/limits or is it like the basic CPAP where a set pressure is prescribed and the machine works +/- accordingly depending on your breathing? I'm guessing the heated vs cool humidifier is one of personal preference, but could you elect to use it in cool (room temp) or heated modes or not at all,if you choose? Has anyone gone from a basic CPAP setup to a "fully loaded model" and felt that basic was preferred despite the upgrade & why that was the case? Any other related thoughts & comments are appreciated.
Thanks!
Dennis
