I recently switched from a straight cpap (Fisher & Paykel HC 200) which I had used for almost five years, and a nasal aire II. Because I was having headaches, I was retitrated, and my pressure changed so many times during the night it was recommended that I try an autopap, a Puritan Bennet 420 E, which I borrowed from the doctor. I liked it a lot, although it did not have heated humidification, so I got the ResMed Vantage S8 Autopap with heated humidifier and a Fisher Paykel flexifit mask. It can be used with heated humidity, cool humidity, or no humidity. Mine is set for the full range of 4 - 20, and I am doing pretty well with it. I do occasionally wake up with a headache, and I'm going to see the DME next week to have the data read on my usage. My personal theory is that I wake up with a headache on the nights where I wake up during the night, take off the mask to use the bathroom, and then go back to sleep. I think perhaps the machine is going back down to 4 and maybe I'm breathing in some old air until it ramps back up. I'm not sure; it's just something I want to ask about.

My husband says the machine is VERY quiet, so the additional features do not increase the noise.

I do also keep my old machine nearby, and for a few days, when I had a cold, I used it, because I preferred the steady airflow instead of the varied one - I felt it kept my nasal passages more clear.

I hope this answers some of your questions.
