Sedation & Apnea

Posted by Pat on May 08, 2006 at 12:58:20:

Hi all,

I don't snore, but I've started waking up gasping for breath every few nights and mentioned this to the nurse at my doc's office. She thinks it might be sleep apnea. I am not sleepy during the day and I don't fall asleep early at night, so she thinks it's probably mild. I am going to have a sleep study done, but it has to be approved by my HMO first which will take a while. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy and am really worried because the doc's office told me not to take any sleep aids or any other nervous system suppressants, but I know conscious sedation will be used during the procedure. I did call the colonoscopy place and they said I would be monitored and to bring my CPAP, but I don't have a CPAP, which I explained to them. Has anyone here had conscious sedation prior to being officially diagnosed, and if so, how did the procedure go, any problems??

Thanks for any info,

Pat
