Auto CPAP v Fixed CPAP

Posted by Lizard on May 10, 2006 at 14:52:08:

I am ready to purchace my first machine and am confused as ever after reading other postings, getting advise from the doctor and the company currently renting me a mchine.

The doctor and company think auto machine are not woth the additional money to purchase, the fixed setting machine will do the job fine.

Reading the forum, it appears that the majority prefer the auto machines, even if they are quite a bit more expensive.

I am using a fixed pressure machine at the moment (only for 4 weeks). First three weeks OK. Past week wakeing every two hours. Every time I wake up I need to press the button to ramp the pressure down as the airflow feels as if I am ready to take off.

I am also having troubles with the mask when the pressure is right up, the pressure lifts the mask off my face and I only need to move the mask slightly and it start to leak a little. the pressure setting is 12cm, machine Remstar pro + humidifier and the mask is a Activa SLD

I would welcome any advise.
