An ENT should be able to refer to a sleep specialist. They can arrange an overnight sleep study where the person is monitored and any signs of apnea or disordered breathing is recorded.

Some ENTs are aware of sleep apnea and the current knowledge, while others are not. It's a little hit and miss. An ENT would be good for an initial diagnosis, but unless they are VERY current on apnea, you'd do better getting referred to a specialist. They will be able to accurately evaluate the physiology and determine which structures might contribute to a problem.

Over in the non CPAP options forum, Seattlebill posted this week about removal of tonsils in a pediatric population for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.
