Pains in chest only when sleeping

Posted by seabrooke on May 16, 2006 at 15:45:29:

Hi,

I have been a regular on the narcolepsy forum for about 2 years now. I do not recall ever posting on any of the other forums here at sleepnet. However there has been this problem that I have been having for a few months now. I've been wanting to ask this question for a while on the apnea forum but I didn't want to bother any of you guys.

I have been waking up numerous times in the night with sort of an aching pain in my heart. Well I think it has to be my heart because it is always occuring in the same region of my chest. It is not a painful pain but very much like a raw ache. It tends to go away when I get up out of bed. if I continue to lay down it continues to progress on and off for a few minutes. I wake up at least once or twice a night with it. I do not believe that I have any shortness of breath because I do not gasp for air when I wake up.

I do not know much about sleep apnea but I do know that it can also be related to the heart and not just breathing problems. I have had a MSLT (multiple sleep lactency test) about 3 times now but I have never had the sleep test that involves sleeping over night. I think it is called a PSG? So it is not like I have ever been ruled out for having any other sleep disorders.

I have been seeing a doctor for the pains but right now I do not want to rule out any other possibilities of what could be causing this pain. Has anyone with sleep apnea have pains in they're chests that wake them up during the night?

I just find it weird that these pains only happen when I am sleeping.

Thanks
