Pain could be GERD.
Search on "GERD". Click on GERD Information Resource Center. Click on the GERD FAQ. Click on #3 (symptoms). See the 4th entry.
GERD can cause apnea, and vice-versa.
Narcolepsy-like symptoms can be caused by sleep deprivation due to a sleep breathing disorder such as apnea.Lack of shortness of breath is not a clue.
Try this: sleep in a recliner and see if the pain is less.
You need a real sleep study (PSG=polysomnograph).
