Insomnia and the CPAP

Posted by mdoats on May 22, 2006 at 12:41:08:

Can an improper titration result in insomnia?

I was diagnosed this past January with severe apnea and after two weeks of wanting to tear the mask off my face, have adjusted quite well to sleeping with the CPAP. I NEVER sleep without it and I'm really pleased with how much better I feel. My blood pressure is lower than it has been in years. Here's the thing though, lately I have been experiencing pretty severe insomnia (as in approximately 80 minutes of sleep last night!)

I have lost some weight recently, approximately 7 percent of my overall weight. Would this require a retitration? Is it possible that too much air pressure could be causing me to be just that little bit uncomfortable enough that I can't sleep? The only way I finally fell asleep this morning was to shut the machine off. Of course, by that point, it could have been sheer exhaustion as well. Any thoughts on this?
