I got my Autopap last year. The doctor submitted a script for it for preauthorization which was rejected the first time. (I understand that it is common practice to reject the first request for expensive treatments with my insurance.) I then sent a detailed letter to the insurance company with copies sent to several different departments. I followed this up with phone calls, emails, and letters asking for information on the "status of my request."

I stated the medical reasons why an autopap was better treatment for me and stressed that an adjusting machine was much less expensive for them than frequent retritations.

An attorney friend said to read my policy carefully and use terms from that document in my letter. It worked and I am feeling much better now that I have my autopap.

Does your machine have a ramp? Both my cpap and autopap had a ramp up feature that was set to gradually increase the pressure as I fell asleep to reduce that initial discomfort.
