I was diagnosed with "severe" sleep apnea after one sleep study and went back to try CPAP.I was asked to sign a form asking if I wanted the company doing the study to provide me with "durable medical equipment" or if I wanted to have my doctor advise me or some other option, I forget what. Obviously (I see that the subject of the obvious conflict of interest of a company that does sleep studies also sells equipment has been covered here before), I checked that I wanted to speak to my doctor first.
Before the study I spoke with a technician who tested various devices on behalf of the company and who also has sleep apnea so I asked him what he reccomended. The devices he reccommended (and uses) were APAP devices.
Since this last study used a Bi-PAP device and I found it difficult to sleep with just the CPAP pressure, I'm certain CPAP alone isn't for me.
I put off my next visit to my doctor so that he could get the results of this last test.
In the mean time, I have been getting calls from someone claiming to be calling me at the request of my doctor and leaving messages saying that the call is about a recent test I had and that she can't go into it any more on the phone. The name of the compny is not the name of the sleep study company nor any other I recognize. I don't think this could be in regards to anything else because I haven't had any other medical tests recently. I'm reasonably certain that my doctor did not ask them to call.
Since I'm pretty certain I know what I want without having to rent it, I'd really just like my doctor to give me the prescription.
My first question is, has anyone experienced having people make sales calls to you claiming to be calling from your doctor?
Is is possible to just buy the equipment and use it on your own without going through the "rent first" route or having people show up at your house?
Thanks.
