It’s not the conventional recommendation, but you could try taking the CPAP with you. Of course, this assumes that you use a nasal mask or pillows, and that the hose does not rest in a place that will obstruct the dentist’s access to your mouth.
Whether you can open your mouth for the dentist without letting all the air out is another question, but perhaps give it a shot. It might not work, but why not try it.
A side benefit might be to educate the dentist as to the exact nature of the problem.
I once took the mask only because it and the “night guard” (a device to protect the teeth against grinding) were pinching my lips. I don’t think that I could have explained the problem in a thousand years, but seeing the mask, he knew just what to do.
As far as breathing problems during dental work, this never happened to me; the problem doesn’t seem to occur when I’m awake.
