La Rossa:

This definately could be apnea, but in fairness, there are a few other possibilities such as laryngospasm, central apnea, collapsing epiglottis, or a seizure.

One clue would be if this is positional. Is it worse on your back? Better if you sleep on your side or sitting up?

My prediction is that you have a narrowing airway just as you suspect. Long palate, elongated uvula, possibly large tonsils, and/or base of tongue obstruction. You've learned to keep it open during the day but now even that is difficult. You're going into REM soon after falling asleep because of sleep debt.

Have you been to an ENT or had a sleep study? If not, that's the next step, only a year too late. Make the call this next week. And if a Dr tells you it's all in your head or stress, get another Dr until you find out what it is.

Keep us posted please.
