Not so silly. I did it for years and only became aware of it when a friend who was a nurse said to me one day in a moment of stress, "Breathe. You're holding your breath." That was twenty years ago and I still find myself holding my breath at stressful times. The clue that this happens when you are very concentrated on something is significant.

This is not to say you don't have other things going on, but it would probably be useful to explore relaxation and stress reduction techniques along with your physical checkup.
