I'm new to the forum, so hello, all.

leannajoe, your question is my question, so to speak. I've probably got the same machine you do (GoodKnight by Puritan-Bennett), I have the same pressure range, and like you, I can't seem to do anything to get the pressure to read above 4. I've experimented by putting the mask on and closing up my throat, and still nothing. I put my thumb over the end of the hose, and rather than seeing the pressure ramp up like you'd expect, it ramps down. Praxair contends that you can't really test the pressure settings this way, and I wonder why not. The machine can't really be doing anything more than sensing air pressure in the circuit, can it?

But unlike you, I don't feel particularly well rested. And I will say that when I was initially using a loaner machine from my local hospital (the same model of machine, actually), I had a couple of experiences where the pressure had ramped way up -- high enough to wake me. But I also felt like I had better sleep with that loaner machine.

So what I'm doing is having Praxair look at my current machine and download the data from it, to determine whether it really is delivering pressures above 4 when I sleep.

I would say, bottom line for you, if you're feeling well rested and not snoring, maybe you should conclude that the nasal pillows DID cure you!
