My DME for my insurance company received my order yesteday and I DROVE into town today to pick it up. Unfortunately, I forgot to get distilled H20, so I've got to back back to down. ANYWAY, after one useless sleep study (where I didn't sleep) and a more successful one with Ambien. I had my titration study about 2 weeks ago and finally, today, received my CPAP machine. It is a REMstar plus with heated humidifier. I got a resperonics comfortgel nasal mask. My DME (Apria) had a brand new machine for me and we went over all the normal "stuff". Seems really easy to use and a decent machine. Anyone have positive or negative comments about it? Apria was unsure if my insurance paid for the machine or just rented it, so the humidifer was purchased, along with mask, hose, etc. and the machine listed as rented for something like $62 per month. My DME is 100% paid (no copayment) up to $2500 per year. I contacted them (AETNA HOMO) and they will either purchase or rent depending on my desire. I don't know whether to have Apria allow me to purchase through insurance or not. PROS vs CONS please? This is my first machine. Should I give it a while to see if it works? Also, my setting seems so high. The sleep center, as you know, didn't tell me anything after my titration study. I haven't seen my PCP until the middle of December, then I will request a copy of my report. As for now my first setting is 14!!! That seems so high to me for someone who has never used it. I personally didn't think my stats were all that bad considering some others I had read. Thank God this machine has a ramp to gradually increase! That is the only way I'll be able to use it. I hope DH can get used to seeing it as well. YIKES! As for my stats, they are as followed. Does a setting of 14 on CPAP seem too high for these?Total Recording time: 401 min
Total Sleep Time: 247.5 min

Impression: Severe OSAS
Recommendations: CONSIDER CPAP/BiPAP titration sleep study
2. Reduce/eliminate caffeine intake
3. weight loss and exercise program
4. relaxation/stress managementMY biggest concern: if CPAP titration study is to be considered (didn't sound too important) how come my starting number is 14? Oh well. Looking forward to giving it a try. I knew it was higher when I woke up at titration study than when I went to sleep, but would never have guessed that. Can't wait to try it out. Gotta go to town and get some water now. LOL
