My own general comments about CPAP machines from being a 11 1/2 user: Any brand or model that works, and works for the person, and is quiet, is good. There is no need to identify with a brand for the sake of your sleep as long as the machine you have is working. Just common sense there. I have never seen consumer reports, though, do any studies of CPAP machines, but there are comparisons to be found on the internet. The market for machines is dominated by Respironics and ResMed in the United States. Outside of them, you have Puritan Bennett, F&C, DeVilblis, and a few other smaller makers trying to break in.

The newest machines from ResMed and Respironics have integrated humidifiers, are small in size, and have exhale relief modes that can be used. The exhale relief mode can make a big difference for some people and is a good option to have.

If you are shopping for a new CPAP, use the internet extensively to shop and read comparisons. Use search engine advanced features to look for documents or pdf files that compare machines. I would generally suggest buying over the internet to lower your costs. However, if you are a patient who needs extra support and help, buying locally from a Durible Medical Equipment retailer could be your best bet.
