Apnea

Posted by psgt777333 on December 12, 2006 at 02:55:17:

Ok I feel a bit foolish but I have been going on the premise that an apnea is 80-100% decrease in flow. NOT contingent upon arousal or desaturation. Is this right for BRPT test guidelines? If it is not, where are the guidelines for the BRPT exam? I know the Medicare guidelines but it seems that labs/centers are not using these as criteria for definitions.
It’s getting confusing as I worked at a center for 9 years which did not require an arousal or desaturation for an apnea. Now I work for a lab that requires either one or the other???
Thanks for any insight that I can get.
