Apnea vs Asthma

I recently started excercising... finished just before bed tonight. When I JUST fall asleep, I stop breathing and wake up with a gasp (hubby confirms). it's been three hours of this. I have adult onset asthma. Mainly evident in spring/fall weather change. I took my inhaler, still have problem. Scared to sleep. Feel an over all constriction in my chest.
Your thoughts? Apnea or Asthma or something else? What can I do to get some sleep tonight?
