AN OPINION:
I notice that I do not mouth breathe as much as when I first started with CPAP therapy. When I first began, it was a major problem. Now, I rarely have trouble. I think that there is a learning/adaptation process. The thing is that it is not pleasant for a CPAP user to mouth breathe. Usually, it wakes the person up. There is a kind of negative feedback conditioning. Maybe it is like this:behaviour = mouth breathing;
negative stimulus = unpleasant sensation/wake up;
response = brain attempts to stop body from mouth breathing or reacts more quickly when mouth breathing begins. Brain becomes sensitive to mouth breathing).AN IDEA:
Have you tried a chin strap which keeps your mouth closed? You can pick these up at sleep apnea stores or online.A MEMORY:
What Sickandtired wrote about the duct tape brings back memories. I too have tried all kinds of things to keep my mouth shut, including resorting to taping my lips closed. I used a kind of paper tape and only taped the corners of my lips. It worked okay, but I don't advise this to anyone.
