Frustrated

Posted by PICKLESMCD on January 30, 2007 at 14:19:05:

Hi, I would like to share my story to see if anyone out there has had a similar experience. I am at my wits end and really feel awful each and every day. I am a 37 yo old male who is in good shape and plays hockey a couple of a times a week. I have a hard time falling asleep and an even harder time staying asleep I have had 5 sleep studies over an 8 year period. During all of these studies I have had 0 stage 3 and 4 and no rem sleep shown. During my 4th sleep study my sleep doc said that I have mild OSA. I would have sworn that during all of the studies I didn't fall asleep at all thus how can OSA be diagnosed. I felt like I just laid there all night long. When I fall asleep at home I will awake within an hour or two with a pounding head as if a freight train is running through my head. I have used every cpap, bipap imagineable and I now have a Resmed adpat sv. Even with these units I have had a terrible time falling asleep and staying asleep. I then experience incredible insomnia for the rest of the night. This has been going on for years. I only wish that I could duplicate the sleep that I have at home in the sleep study. When I suddenly awake it is as if I had been dreaming non stop up until the point that I awake. A couple of times I have awaken with chest pain. This was reported to my PCP who initiated a stress test that showed nothing wrong with my heart. My eyes have developed dark circles under them and I have absolutely no energy most every day. My kids and coworkers ask me on a consistent basis why I look so tired. I feel like I have a hangover every day of my life. I have tried meds (ambien, lunesta, remeron) but try and stay away from them because they are of no help at all. If there is anyone out there that feels the same way I do or has had similar experiences I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for your time!
