Posted by Alamo Joe on January 31, 2007 at 15:55:48:The January 31 issue of Journal of Kidney Diseases reported that there is a relation between kidney stones and diabetes. In my opinion, diabetes and gout seem to be siblings descended from obstructive sleep apnea. Crohn’s disease, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, bedwetting, ear infection and reflux also seem to be descendants of sleep apnea.
Children with regressive autism have been diagnosed with diabetes, gout, bedwetting, reflux, ear infection, colitis and sleep problems. With the exception of gout, bottle feeding is a risk for the above. Bottle feeding is also a risk for adverse effects on intelligence and cognition.
When bottle-feeding the infant uses different muscles than when the child is breast feeding. This difference in forces results in changes in the shape of the infant’s skull such that the child is predisposed to developing sleep apnea. (Search the internet for “Palmer apnea snort” Use the URL containing ‘Palmer’.)
“Nasal congestion, … , can lead to sequelae such as sinusitis, otitis media, and the onset or worsening of mild to severe sleep disturbances, including obstructive sleep apnea.” (search ‘Corey [au] AND apnea’ on PubMed. Select the citation which includes Houser and Ng)
“The most common clinical syndromes that cause nasal congestion are allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, and upper respiratory viral infections (common colds).” (Corey) Measles and pertussis check out as ‘upper respiratory viral infections’.
Sleep apnea is, in the main, a mechanical ailment. The respiratory drive must be adequate to overcome airway resistance. When the airway becomes obstructed the respiratory system makes repeated efforts to overcome the obstruction. During these attempts the effort exerted can be as much as 10 to 15 times the normal effort. (Guilleminault - citation below) The ‘snort’ is another mechanical aspect. At the end of an apnea is a rapid expulsion of air which opens the eustachian tube and blows gastric juices and infectious organisms into the middle ear. (Herr [au] AND reflux to get the ‘ear infection citation. Use the 2001 letter for reflux text.)
I reason that it is ‘blunt force trauma’ which causes colitis. The mechanical trauma of the surgeon handling the intestines during abdominal surgery results in temporary changes in the digestive processes. The digestive system recovers from surgery in a few days. The apneas occur every night and in sleep apnea patients, the gut does not have enough time to recover before it is again ‘hammered’ by apneas.
The epidemic of regressive autism seems to be the result of bottle-feeding followed by vaccinations containing upper respiratory viruses. I am not a doctor. I can express my views, but I may not make medical recommendations.
