Severe Respiratory Flu & BiPap

Posted by Nightmare Zombie on February 06, 2007 at 10:11:12:

Hello, everyone. I've had severe sleep apnea since way back in 1998. I also have asthma, which is why I use a BiPap machine instead of a CPAP.

About 4 days ago, I got the worst respiratory flu I've had in many years. I have continued to use the BiPap because I know if I don't, I'll have sleep apnea all night. But by using it, I'm forcing the mucous out of my head and into my lungs. I cough a lot and my lungs "rattle" when I do.

Even though I've had sleep apnea for many years, I am far from an expert on it.

What would you knowledgeable people suggest? Should I stop using the BiPap? It seems like I'll never get my strength back to fight this stuff if I have apnea every night. But I can't keep on with the BiPap either (have you ever coughed with your headgear on - no fun).

I apologize if this has been answered before but I'm so tired, I just don't feel up to wading through the FAQ's.

Thanks for any suggestions!
