Mouth Breathing

Posted by Elroy Jetson on February 06, 2007 at 17:56:38:

I wear one of the nasal torture devices known as a CPAP. ISn't it amazing that this is the best thing 21st century technology can come up with for apnea? The reason I'm writing is that my sleep quality has degenerated over the last year or two as air is escaping more and more out of my open mouth once. I tried a full face mask, but believe Bernoulli's principal is at teh heart of the problem with the same. The machine pressure spread over a small area, such as with a nasal device, exerts less force on my face and skin than the same psi spread over the large area of a facial mask.

The cure? A small electronic valve that would open and close in synchronization with my breathing. It could be in teh pump, in teh mask or both. In this manner, the pressure in the mask would not spike during the exhale, as it does now to force air out against both the pump and the check valve. It would only be elevated when I was inhaling.

All ye device manufacturers, make me one...
