I'm not the most experienced at this but I was also recently diagnosed and will share what I found out.
Regarding the records - when I requested a copy of my records I received selected pages of graphs from the study (seemingly random, about 6 pages) and copies of the summary pages. I found the summary pages to be most helpful - there was a summary of my sleep without CPAP and sleep with CPAP detailing sleep stages, oxygen desaturation, positional affects, etc. Most states are required to give you one free copy of your medical records so don't let them turn you down. It won't be the whole record, but I found some comfort in having some data and found many questions for my doctor.
My lowest reported O2 desaturation was 76%, but after a rescore my doctor informed me that this was probably an error. (I do remember adjusting the clip a few times because it made my hand numb). Any chance that might have happened with your 14%? You might want to ask a certified sleep doctor to take a second look (mine rescored the entire test by hand).
Regarding insurance - My medical equipment company contacted my insurance and I received a letter that I have been granted coverage for a one month trial period. I was told this is typical. My insurance bought the mask and humidifier and is renting the machine for a month. That trial period ends tomorrow so I'll soon find out what happens! I was automatically fitted with a CPAP even though during my sleep study I was titrated using a BiPAP (funny what you find out when you obtain copies of your medical records).
It's good that you can sleep through anything - should help with your adjustment to a CPAP/BiPAP (I've had a lousy time). Good luck!
