not your usual CPAP noises...

Posted by sleepy too on February 19, 2007 at 09:06:23:

My husband recently began using a CPAP machine, and I am hearing the strangest noises as he sleeps with it. When he first puts it on, it's fine- just doing its usual hum. But as soon as he drops off, he starts making these weird gurgling, gutteral noises and they continue all night. They are continuous, which makes me think his pallet is collapsing or something.(?) And they are VERY loud. When I nudge him, they stop, but as soon as he falls back asleep they start again. I don't think it's the machine because
there is no air leaking from his mask or anything. And his mouth stays closed.
I am normally a very deep sleeper, but these noises are very disturbing. I don't want him to quit using the machine, so I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this, so we can fix it. Thank you for your
interest!
