The noise is likely some kind of leak, assuming it isn't coming from the machine, which it sounds like it isn't. He could be having mouth leaks. These kind of noises arn't always the mouth popping open, but the air escaping past the tongue and the soft palate (wet flappy tissue) and then out the mouth. How does he say his sleep is in the morning? Does he feel rested? A full face mask may help because it will block the air exit, but it can sometimes not be the best solution since the FF masks are hard to get used to and to fit properly. The ultimate best solution is weight loss in the patient. This may reduce the pressure required to keep the airway open or eliminate the need for the PAP entirely, although don't having him go off the machine without a doctor's supervision.
