do you think my baby has apnea?

My 21mo daughter started snoring after the first of the year. Sometimes she sounds like she is having trouble breathing and will jerk and then take a deep breath. After that her breathing will often settle down for a few minutes, but she will still be snoring. Sometimes she will do the snort and jerk thing several times before settling down. I have noticed that as she falls into a deeper sleep, the snoring gets better and often stops.

Her dad has sleep apnea and uses a CPAP machine. Knowing what it is and what the symptoms are he believes he has had it all his life. He does have very large tonsils. I took her into the Dr. but he seemed to somewhat blow it off. He did acknowledge that her tonsils seemed somewhat large, but actually suggested that they would shrink on their own as she grew.
