The M-Series is respironics 'new Remstar' as you have said. It is a smaller unit to the one you currently have with a 'clip-on' water chamber that is much easier to use than the original Remstars. The water chamber slides in and out of a compartment rather than having to be on that spring-loaded heating plate. It also connects seamlessly with the main unit. The water chamber settings are now changed with a dial rather than a hidden menu.
As for C-Flex. All Respironics units now come with this feature. Respironics were the first to develop this type of technology. You do, however, have the option to turn off Cflex and then your new machine will function exactly as your old one. There are two ways to set up the machine - with the settings locked by a Sleep Technologist and with the option to change them yourself. You may feel more comfortable with someone locking in the settings if you unsure of what to set them on.
For a very basic description, C-Flex is flexible CPAP. The CPAP function is still there just like your current machine so the airway is held open the same way. The difference is that C-Flex can monitor inhalation and exhalation and then when you exhale the machine drops the pressure a little bit so you don't have so much resistance to breathe against. For some people the pressure isn't a concern and C-Flex isn't needed. For others, C-Flex is greatly preferred. They find it may be much more comfortable to breathe with.
I don't think you would be disappointed with the M-Series (although you have plenty of other options). If you do decided to get one, ask your Sleep Technologist to set the machine in C-Flex mode at maximum dip (it is possible to set proportional pressure relief at different levels you see) and then if you do find it uncomfortable, just ask the Sleep Tech to change the machine to CPAP.
Hope this helps.
