Your help is greatly needed

Posted by Tired in Albany on March 26, 2007 at 10:29:48:

Hi – I’m reaching out to the Sleep Net Community for your help. For the past 12 years, I have been waking up exhausted every morning (with the exception of 3 times, which I clearly remember, but cannot re-create). I’ve had 7 sleep studies done, indicating that I have moderate sleep apnea. I am currently using an auto titrating cpap but it offers absolutely no help to feeling more rested. The reports from the cpap machine show a high amount of vibration in my airway, which my doctor said could cause arousals and disrupt my sleep, but he wasn’t sure what was causing it. All of my sleep studies show that I never get to the level 4 or level 5 of sleep. I also wake up with a lot of pain, not just normal stiffness, but the pain is so bad it wakes me up at night to change positions and in the morning, I have to get up because the pain is to much to stay in bed. I have constant pain – specifically in the neck, spine and lower back as well as joint pain – I’ve been taking Hydrocodone for the past 2 years and it did help boost my energy during the day, but if I took it at night, it would keep me awake. I’ve been tested for a lot of things and no one can find the root cause of the pain. It is very difficult to function on a day to day basis as it is affecting my job performance, my life in general (I’ve probably have slept ¾ of my life away over the past 11 years – napping for hours at every chance I get). Sleeping most of the day on weekends. Two months ago I was put on 400mg of Provigil – which has helped stay away from napping, but not always. I just got off the phone with my sleep doctor and he said that surgery would be an option, but not a guarantee since he really isn’t sure why I feel so tired in the morning. After going to sleep, I wake up and I’m almost non-functional – I can’t think straight and I do things like make coffee without putting the coffee grinds in the maker. I take the Hydrocodone and Provigil and it takes about 1.5 hours to get to a point where I can get ready to go to work. It has been a very long (I’m 48 years old now) road and the future isn’t looking too promising. I also had a mild stroke two years ago and found out that I have a hole between the two parts of my heart (don’t know if this is contributing to any of this). I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and most importantly for any advice or suggestions you might have. Thank you so much.
