Power outage - what would you do?

Posted by Captin Cannuck on April 12, 2007 at 06:52:53:

Hi everyone,

What can we do to cope with power outages? I am particularly worried about what I would do in a blackout. I have lived through many power outages in my life, but none since getting on CPAP. At present, I have no contingency plan. If there was a blackout tonight, I would be in serious trouble. My apnea is very severe because of damage to my airway by a botched LAUP operation.... long story... In any case, CPAP is an absolute *must* for me.

I was wondering if anyone has made contingency plans? If so, what would you do? I can imagine that a marine battery would be useful, but only up to a certain point (one or two days), but what if the blackout extended beyond that? Anyone tried using solar power to recharge a marine battery? Would a generator be a more cost efficient way to prepare or would it be unpracticle since I would need to store fuel in my house (dangerous)? Anyways, I would like to hear any ideas on this.
