I was diagnosed with narcolepsy four years ago, and at that time even though I had many arousals throughout the night, had no breathing readings consistent with apnea. Last week I went for another overnight because I have been feeling awful for a number of months. This time I have severe sleep apnea. My understanding is that you can have both disorders; even though you may see a <5 min. sleep latency with apnea or narcolepsy during the MSLT, narcolepsy has the added REM stage during the short nap.
