Sounds like you are in need of a second opinion, whether to prevent misdiagnosis or to settle your nerves. Look for a sleep specialist to discuss it with, I would think. It helps if you are direct, like saying, 'couldn't a cold obstruct my breathing and cause arousals?' pointed questions will get you the answers, and the clarification, you need. Another thing, trying the CPAP also won't hurt, if it's effective great, if not it can stop being used. I have mixed symptoms and have been told sleep apnea can sometimes create symptoms that appear similar to narcolepsy. It certainly can be confusing, so don't rule out anything and ask lots of questions.
