Need help with Bi-level

Posted by kettlebell on June 11, 2007 at 04:41:23:

I have recently received a Bi-level machine and I have been having trouble getting used to it. Previously, I used an APAP machine, but my doc felt that the Bi-level would give me better compliance at the higher pressures it seems I need. My problem with the Bi-level (Respironics M-4 Plus) is that it seems it is trying to breathe for me at a faster pace than I am used to. I suppose my breathing is fairly shallow and slow, at least before sleep, and the machine senses any pause and sends a rush of air. It is almost like a ventilator trying to breathe for me as opposed to the APAP that let me breathe as slow as I want although I had to push against the pressure. Do I need to learn to breathe differently for Bi-level, or is the machine not set corectly? Any suggestions welcome.
