I have recently bought Resmed S8 Vantage, and have upgraded from the S7 Auto Spirit.
This is my own review of the S8 Vantage:
THE POSITIVE SIDE:
1. Much smaller
First, it is much smaller and more portable. It is about half the size. The first night, I place the two models side by side, and I laughed at the difference in size. It is funny how much more compact the new one is. The smaller size is the feature that I like the most, because I travel a lot. I also like that there is much more space on my night table.
2. The humidifier.
I am really fond of the way that they made the new humidifier. It has a lid, which you can pop up. It is much easier to fill than the S7 model. You can just pop up the lid and pour the distilled water from the bottle into the reservoir.3. The Case
The carrying case is really cool. It is very well designed. It is much smaller and looks more like a briefcase than the S7 model. The S7 model was a blue backpack. I like the way that the individual components have their own little velcro forms which are detachable and fit into the main case.THE NEGATIVE SIDE:
1. A LITTLE LOUDER:
I have tested the two units side by side, and the smaller S8 unit is slightly louder than the S7 unit. I suppose that this is the trade-off for the smaller size. The difference is not very much, possibly one or two decibals. Both are very quiet, but I have to admit that the S7 is quieter.2. SMALLER BUTTONS
I liked the size of the old buttons on the S7 model. The new buttons are smaller, and they are not made from the same "true grip" type of plastic material. I liked that feature on the S7.3. THE CORD:
I like the old cord on the S7 model better. One time, I left it in a hotel room, and it was easy for me to go to a computer store and buy a computer cord. The new cord seems like it would be more trouble to replace in a jam.4. RECALL
As some of you might know, some of the S8 models have been recalled. My understanding is that there is no reason to worry about this, because the recall is limited to only early prototypes of the S8. Also, even in these early prototypes, there is only a very remote chance of anything going wrong.CONCLUSION:
All things considered, I am happy with the new S8 model. I like it more than the S7. For me, the smaller size and the ease of filling the humidifier are two definate advantages that outweigh the quietness of the S7.I would like to hear from other S8 users. What do you think of it?
