Hi Captain,
You posted this quite a while ago, but I just came back to the site today.
I have had the shocking and very frightening episodes you speak of. My first one was so severe I ended up having heart testing. It felt like I had been shocked with a high voltage electrical cord. (At 72 my heart is fine.)
I am startled awake, heart pounding, frightened half out of my wits, then I sit up quickly and try to settle down. I have been told by a friend that is a nurse practitioner that these are Nocturnal Panic Attacks. I hate them! They seem to be connected to little daily disturbances, pressures and stress. It also, takes me at least a half hour to settle down and get back to sleep. Now and then I will have 20 to 30 itty bitty episodes, and sometimes just one or two tiny ones. Probably doesn't make much sense, but I have all ranges of these attacks.I really felt it was due to not having my pressure correct on my cpap, but now I have a new bipap, and hope things will keep getting better.
I used to sleep like a baby--- not as good anymore!
