am I breathing the same air?

Posted by sleepy and distracted on July 06, 2007 at 20:19:37:

My gut feeling with my CPAP issue (causes me to be more tired than with out it) is that I am not getting as much oxygen as without it. My doc doesn't think this is possible but I don't think he is particularly bright and I don't think he is open to anything thing that could conflict with the standard medical line. I just can't see how all of the air that I inhale is getting released though the tiny exhaust vents on my mask. I know that some of it goes back down the tube so I think I must be breathing the same air over and over again.

Is there any way to check blood oxygen levels at home? or the oxygen level of the air in the tube?

Could some masks be better for this than others? I have tried 2, one nose only (very comfortable, good fit, I don't breathe through my mouth with it) and a full face mask (my husband's) which seems to vent more air but made me more tired.
