Regardless, it sounds like it needs to be serviced.

The machine should increase by just a few increments to adjust to your need. Not jump 10.

You have nothing to lose to get it looked at. Maybe you still have a warranty on it?

Also, you may want to get a new hose or make sure that it's connected well and not leaking anywhere (mask, hose, connection) because that may kick the pressure up too if the air is escaping. Just a guess.
