I don't think stopping CPAP would be a good idea; I think it's a terrible idea, as a matter of fact. If I understand you correctly, you don't feel you've experienced any significant improvement in your daytime sleepiness. If that's the case, it's time to look at the rest of your lifestyle: are you getting exercise or do you sit at a desk all day? How is your diet? How many caffeinated beverages are you drinking daily? Do you spend 7 hours asleep in bed, or are you shortchanging yourself?
Any possibility you have some other physical issue such as undiagnosed allergies or anemia that could be dragging you down?
22 cessations per hour is not the entire story; your blood oxygen desaturation must be factored into the equation as well. Normal % is supposed to be above 90% during sleep.
