Posted by laserone on August 10, 2007 at 18:30:28:Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I just got my first cpap machine this week. I am a mouth-breather in my sleep, and in the lap they tried the chin-strap that didn't work. I still did the "pfffff..." thing and they had to wake me up and take that off and put on the "full face" mask, so that's what I'm using now.
The problem I am having at home is that I wake up several times a night because my mouth so dry it hurts becase I open my mouth when I sleep and the cpap blows air into my mouth. I did a SEARCHhere in the forum and I read about tongue placement and will try that. I also read about special tape but I'm afraid to tape my mouth shut. I do have the humidifier, it's set on 4.
What I'm wondering is, if I got some kind of mouth-guard (like people who grind their teeth wear), would that stop or limit the amount of air being blown into my mouth by the full-face mask?
On Monday (it's Friday night now) I can call the sleep lap or the nurse or delivered it for advice. But for now, I thought I'd ask here. Thanks for any input. :)
