Yes, it caused a film, but you should be able to wash it. You can also get a new plastic container for the humidifyer if ever necessary.

If you usually use distilled water and you run into occasions where you don't have it, using it one night here and there isn't going to hurt. If you are really concerned then wash it thoroughly in the morning.
