5 to 6 hours is wonderful! So many newbies can hardly get to an hour when they start. If the straps are digging into your face to that extent, they're probably too tight. I think the tendency to pull the straps really tight is a mistake we usually make at the beginning.

So far as still being tired, have you read up on sleep debt? Dr. Dement's book, The Promise of Sleep, explains it.
