advise on starting CPAP

Posted by ElPasoGuy on August 23, 2007 at 16:17:46:

Hello all,

I had a study done back in May, I went to see my results in July (lots of traveling) and this is more or less what I was told:

1 episode of apnea that lasted 16 seconds
172 events during 6 hours (the doctor did not go into more detail, I hope this makes sens to you all.
90% and 96% oxigen levels

The diagnosis is moderate sleep apnea and he "suggested" that I used the C-PAP equipment.

I was not very happy with the doctor's attitude I felt like I was being ordered to do something rather than being explained what was deal and what should I expect from this treatment. All this questions I had to ask and got rather quick and short responses. I definitely felt like this doctors is running a business and not a practice (if you know what I mean). Anyways, at the end he suggested I watched a video explain all the treatment, the actual causes of sleep anea, etc. So I left and told the assistant I will call back with a decision (which she was not very happy to hear).

Anyways, I'd like some advise from your part. Are these results really to worry about or is the doctor just trying to sell me a machine (which is my current feeling)?

Thanks,

Gerardo
