Posted by todd on August 27, 2007 at 21:42:18:I have a new Remstar Auto M-Series with A-Flex. The pressure setting is 6-11. My previous machine was a Puritan Bennett 420E.
On my old machine, upon awaking during the night or mornings, the pressure would have gone down to the point that was similar to that when I fell asleep. It seemed like the machine sensed I was awake and breathing on my own and cut the pressure down. Also, on the PB, if I took the mask off, the pressure would immediately be reduced.
With the Remstar I always wake up with it blasting full pressure and even if I take the mask off it doesn't go back to starting pressure. I have to actually turn the machine off or let it cut off and then put it back on (or push the ramp button) to get the pressure reduced. I never wake up to minimal pressure.
Shouldn't the machine sense I'm awake and breathing on my own and reduce the pressure? Does anyone else experience this with auto-paps?
Even the Puritan Bennett would behave this way at times.
I don't see the point in an auto-pap if the pressure only adjusts up, but never/rarely down.
On my PB, I could download the history and see it adjusting up and down. Unfortunately now that they won't sell the software for me to see the history for the Remstar, there's no way for me to see that the thing is adjusting up AND down during the night.
Anybody have any insights for me? Thanks!!
