Exhaling when you have a cold is usually difficult even without CPAP because all the nasal membranes are irritated and swollen. Heated humidity usually helps -- I hope you have the humidifier with your unit? You don't say what your pressure is, but it was not up to the tech to tell you (a) whether she's seen much worse (by what criteria is she judging?), or (b) that you don't need a BiPap. That's not her call to make.

Having said that, many people find they need to experiment with different interfaces (i.e., pillows and masks) to find the most comfortable one. Good luck and don't give up.
