The reason I changed from the P&B, was it malfunctioned twice in about 2-3 year period and had to be replaced twice. The first one was a warranty repair that cost me about $100, the second time it went south (just over 1 year after I'd just had it replaced) it wasn't covered at all and I had to decide whether to buy a new P&B or try a differnt machine. I had had a problem similar to the runaway pressure when it did go bad and was hoping for better results. (The pressure tube connection was another issue. I travel often and had to connect/reconnect that tube often and it wore out quickly and I broke off one of the nipples too.)

I did do well on CPAP, but was hoping for better results. There were periods of weeks at a time where I wasn't doing well, and thought it might be because I needed more/less pressure during those periods (also my 3 sleep studies had greatly varying titration recommendations from 4 all the way to 9). Also I was working on losing weight and worried that I might need less pressure, but thinking that a CPAP at too-high a pressure might interfere with my sleep and have a negative effect on my attempts to lose weight.

I wanted to experiment with the upper pressure setting, but it's harder with not having the detailed history and having to go on averages.

I lowered the upper pressure from 12-11 a bit over a week ago and saw only an increase of 7-day AHI from 3.8 to 3.9. I'm going to repeat this experiment with a setting of 10 now, since the high pressure seems to be waking me up.

I'll also take your advice and talk to the place I bought the machine and see if it might not ought to be returned to try a different machine or at least have it checked out. I wish there was a way to test the thing without returning it. I need it, and being without for a couple of weeks is not pleasant (although I do have a backup CPAP to use in the meantime).

Thanks for your help!
