I've heard (from my doctor) that in most cases of UPPP (not sure if
this is the same for tonsil surgery) that a person will have to use a
full face mask, and that nasal masks OR nasal pillows won't work.
He says no one is told this ahead of time, before they have
surgery, unfortunately. Hopefully, it's a problem for you that will
resolve in time, but like I said maybe it is different for tonsil
surgery...
