Your description is a bit confusing. You seem to be describing a problem of mouth leaking and not air swallowing. Both are potential problems of XPAP use, but a new tonsillectomy would be a situation where mouth leaking may be a concern.

Air swallowing sometimes happens with XPAP use because the pressure of the machine overcomes the pressure on the esophigael muscle. Getting air into your stomach would cause belching, or, getting the air past the stomach into the intestine would cause gas in the other direction.

Air coming in the nose but not staying in the airway to the lungs is considered a leak. The leak is coming from the natural seal area of your tongue base and soft palate because you just had surgery there. There are scars. Even people who don't use CPAP have to have a seal in this area to breathe normally.

If the surgery was only recently, then don't start to worry just yet. The area in the back of the throat needs to heal. Be sure to drink a lot of water and just give it more time.

I'm not a doctor, but I've had the UPPP surgery with tonsil removal. I had the same sort of problem, but it healed for me and I was able to get the air sealing back in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Using a FF mask might help a bit, but it doesn't stop the air leak at the point of the tongue and soft palate.

Better ideas for the future would be a change in diet to eliminate food groups that cause fat to build up in strange areas. Eliminate dairy and beef, and cut way back on wheat and things made of wheat flour. Drink sweetened soy milk instead of cow's milk. No cheese or ice cream whatsoever. Eat rice a lot. Tonnes of veggies and fruits. Veg soups. Eggs. Only small pieces of chicken and or pork, just to add flavor. Fish is great. Do this all for 90 days straight and you'll see your sleep change for the better. Add weekly exercise and a vitamin pill everyday.
