Auto-CPAP's are used most effectively when they are set to auto mode and used with a range of pressures that don't exceed 6 cm in difference: an example being 6 cm of pressure lower limit and 12 cm high limit. Auto-CPAP machines can also be used in CPAP mode - and are just straight CPAP machines when set like that.

Most people don't go out and buy an Auto CPAP and then run it in straight mode - kind of a waste of money there. Straight CPAP's go for hundreds less.

Auto CPAPs are for people who already do ok with CPAP but are looking for better results.

Can't tell by your post if you are using that Remstar Auto just at 4 cm??? I can tell you right now that it won't be too effective there. If your apneas are better controlled at 6 cm, the machine should be set up with limits of maybe 5 cm on the low side and 11 cm on the high side.
